Communicating with members of the public with mental health or learning disabilities can prove difficult and none more so when staff are faced with people who display behaviours that challenge.
We provide training to ensure staff are capable of handling situations which may prove harmful to themselves, or people under their care. We can offer scenario based training to help equip workers to deal with real-life situations. Conflict can sometimes be a big part of care work and arises from differences in needs, values and interests. What is vital is how you respond to and manage it.
Any training which aims to be effective must :
- Be Person centred relevant to the specific needs of the service user
- Promote respect for the service user and look to reduce conflict and challenging behaviours, influences and associations.
- Develop positive behavioural supports,
- Aim to reduce the use of restraint and indeed eliminate the use of restraint.
